a beautiful spring afternoon… at the playground… flying high on the swings…
and catching my sweet boy’s smiles of pure joy…

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with the Kirkley family this past weekend. It was such a dreary Sunday afternoon, weather-wise, but I am so glad we kept our appointment because this sweet newborn made my day! Besides, baby Josie was born in early February, so I didn’t want to let another week pass by before capturing all her “newness”!
She was the perfect 4-week old… we were able to get the wide-awake shots & sleepy shots… she even shared a few smiles with me… I couldn’t have asked for more!
Thank you, Jason & Lauren, for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to spend some time photographing your sweet family. Here are a few of my favorites so far from our session… hope you’ll enjoy!

and last but certainly not least… I had to leave a spot on the blog sneak peeks for Josie’s canine brother “Billy”… isn’t he the sweetest? He definitely needed to be included in some of our shots, too, don’t you think?!

Luke and I had a special visit with Baby Hayden & her mom yesterday… and of course I brought my camera along for the ride. I’m so appreciative of my sweet friends for allowing me to use their beautiful children all the time to take pictures of… I just hope the kids won’t all start avoiding me like the plague one day when they begin recognizing me as their own personal paparazzi!
Our best friends have been blessed with their second beautiful gift from God… one of the pink, frilly, bow-wearing variety this time around. Hayden Kate is pure sweetness and I could have held her all day if it hadn’t been for all of the many picture ideas I had running through my head. I just appreciate her being so cooperative with all of it. She did remind me of one of my very favorite parts of being a mom, that sometimes only the true mama can comfort you… and I was perfectly pleased to have the opportunity to capture some sweet pictures of her with her beautiful mommy… content as could be.
Here are way too many of my favorites from our time together yesterday because it was impossible to choose any less than this…

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy doing engagement sessions? I don’t have the chance to do them nearly as much as I’d like, since I don’t do weddings, but I have such a blast with them! When this future bride contacted me to do her engagements pictures, I was so excited. Then she mentioned that her fiance is a firefighter & she’d like to do some shots around his station… even better!
My brother-in-law is a firefighter so we have a special love for anything firefighter-related at our house. I couldn’t begin to count how many fireman toys or outfits Luke has… I love it, though, and cannot wait until he is old enough to realize how cool it is that his Uncle Cody fights fires.
So it was a total honor to take these… Emma & Seth are such a cute couple and were such troopers for all my ideas… thanks, guys, for giving me the opportunity to work with you… hope you’ll enjoy these sneak peeks!

The Neil Diamond song has been in my head the entire time I’ve been editing this session. I had the honor of photographing this sweet Caroline last week, at 4 weeks old. I had such a great time meeting her sweet mom & dad, as well, and during conversation realized that Caroline’s mom & my husband went to high school together! What a small world it is!
Anyway, Blake & Lacey have one beautiful little girl on their hands. We got some great awake shots of her & even a few sleepy ones… she was such a trooper for all of my ideas – mom & dad, too!
Thanks so much, Owen family, for welcoming me into your home & giving me the opportunity to photograph your new blessing! Hope you will enjoy a few sneak peeks for now!

I loved the looks she & her dad were sharing… I think she may already have him wrapped around her little finger!

We so rarely see snow here in the south, that when it does appear, I think many of us have that overwhelming urge to quickly bundle up the kids, run outside & take as many pictures as possible before it all melts away! This is, of course, after we’ve made the trip to the grocery store to stock up on “supplies” for the “winter storm”!
As the snow came down today, I was no exception to this tradition. The last time we saw the white stuff was January of last year, at which time our little one was only 2 1/2 months old, so of course I had to get him out there to experience it all again!
It started coming down pretty heavily during his morning nap, so as soon as he woke up, we had to open the blinds in his nursery & let him see the “winter wonderland” outside!

sharing a little love with daddy…

Then we bundled up (sorry grandmoms, no gloves!) and headed outside to enjoy things first-hand!

It was a fun afternoon enjoying the white stuff! Even as I type now, most of what was coming down so steadily just an hour ago has now turned to rain. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted… and of course I have the pictures to remember!
I’m pretty sure Baby Gap is going to be calling Carson’s parents any day now… could he be any cuter? Halfway through our session this past Saturday, I seriously considered putting him in my car & driving away as fast as I could… I think I could stare at this sweet smile for hours!
When a photographer talks about a dream subject… this is it. Carson is 7 months old and just about every time you look at him he breaks into the sweetest smile… and those beautiful blue eyes… what more could I ask for?
I have truly enjoyed going through all of the images from my session with Carson and his parents… the hardest part has been trying to decide which ones to use for their final images.
Thank you, Robinson family, for sharing your little guy with me this past weekend! Here are a few of my favorites so far from our time together… hope you enjoy!

I have over 250 pictures I need to go through from this weekend’s session, but I just couldn’t help myself from going through the very special pictures I had the honor of capturing earlier today…
Our best friends welcomed their beautiful little girl this weekend… Hayden Kate joins big brother Charlie and we’ve already got dibs on her for Luke’s future wife. Poor thing, she’s not even 24 hours old yet and we’ve got it all figured out… not to mention I’ve already begun stalking her with my camera. I’m just trying to get her used to the sound of my shutter click… she’s going to hear quite a few of those in the weeks, months & years to come…
For now, I wanted to share a few of my favorites from our first meeting today at the hospital. I am in love with her already and cannot wait to watch her grow and change… with my camera nearby at all times of course!
Welcome to the world, sweet Hayden… we are so thankful to God for the blessing of you and the happiness you have already brought your family!

It’s so hard to believe that my little man turned 15 months this week… for some reason 15 months sounds so much older to me than 12 months….
As I’ve probably mentioned before, I spend a LOT of time on the computer… working on pictures, reading up on different photography websites, learning about technical things I have questions about… and being inspired by all of the other incredible photographers out there. I love looking at other photographers’ blogs… seeing their most recent work, learning from their experiences and sharing in this exciting adventure that we’re all blessed to be a part of. Recently I became especially inspired by another photographer and the time she spends photographing her own child. What a novel concept! I am thankful for the business & opportunities that I have been blessed with in recent months, but sometimes I feel like I spend more time photographing other people’s children than my own. Now, I’m sure if you asked him, Luke would be perfectly happy with this new-found distance from my camera… and I’m also sure if you asked any of my family and friends they would say I take TONS of pictures of him. This is true, for some people, but for a photographer’s child, not so much.
So, it’s my new mission to work harder at capturing the fleeting moments in my own child’s life… how quickly I see them passing already! I don’t want to miss out on photographing these times that I’ll never be able to get back again! I love sharing my work, even some of the personal images, with others… who doesn’t love showing off their child? So you may start seeing more of this little guy in the months to come… as this mommy/photographer works harder to put her camera in front of her own beautiful blessing, along with all of yours.
